Pilar Alvarado is a dual-regulated lawyer in both Quebec and Alberta, serving clients in French, Spanish, and English. With over 13 years of experience in various government roles—including Aboriginal Law Services, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Alberta Justice, and the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee—Pilar has built a distinguished career advocating for vulnerable individuals and visible minority groups.

Her passion lies in immigration law, particularly refugee matters, where her compassion and commitment have earned her numerous accolades. She was recognized by the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Alberta (AJEFA) for her impactful volunteer work supporting women in Calgary.

Pilar’s dedication to social justice is reflected in her extensive volunteer work. In Montreal, she contributed to Maison Flora Tristan, served as President of the Board of Directors for CPE La Bergerie, and worked as an interpreter for Latin American judges. After relocating to Calgary, she continued her advocacy by volunteering with the Calgary Women’s Centre as an ESL instructor and supporting immigrant women through the Calgary Immigrant Aid Society as an interpreter and translator.

Clients from Africa, South and Central America, Asia, and the Middle East have benefited from Pilar’s culturally informed and compassionate legal guidance. Her deep understanding of international geopolitical realities and diverse cultural backgrounds allows her to connect meaningfully with clients and tailor her approach to their unique needs.

Pilar’s personal journey as a child refugee fuels her commitment to helping newcomers experience the generosity and inclusion that shaped her own life in Canada. She is devoted to ensuring that others feel welcomed, supported, and empowered as they navigate their legal challenges.

Outside of her legal work, Pilar enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, exploring Canada’s scenic landscapes on road trips, and sharing laughter wherever she goes. Beyond the courtroom, she remains a fierce advocate for fairness and equity—never afraid to speak up for those in need.
